Hypnotherapy in Nottingham
Online Hypnotherapy for Clients in Nottingham and Across Nottinghamshire
If something has been weighing on you for a while and you’re ready for it to stop, you’re in the right place.
I work with a lot of people in and around Nottingham, from the city centre and West Bridgford out to Beeston, Arnold and Hucknall.
I’m based in Risley, just off junction 25 of the M1 on the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire border.
Most of my sessions happen online over a secure video call, so you can do this from your own sofa.
Stopping smoking and vaping is the exception. I see people in person for that too, just over the border in Derbyshire.
What Brings People to Hypnotherapy
People come to me for all sorts of reasons. Some have been living with anxiety for years. Others want to stop smoking, sleep properly again, or finally get on a plane without dreading it.
You might recognise some of these:
Lying awake at 3am replaying everything you said that day
Panic that turns up out of nowhere halfway round the Victoria Centre on a Saturday
Wanting to stop smoking or vaping and never quite making it stick
Putting off the dentist, a blood test or a flight because the fear takes over
Feeling wired and exhausted at the same time
Doubting yourself every time it really matters
None of this means something is wrong with you. A lot of it comes back to the same thing.
Your caveman brain can’t tell the difference between a real threat and a full inbox, and the stress bucket keeps filling until it overflows.
In our first session I explain exactly what’s going on, and clients often tell me nobody had ever explained it to them before. Understanding it takes a lot of the fear out of it.
About Me: Your Nottingham Hypnotherapist
I'm Emma Fogg, founder of Next Chapter Hypnotherapy and an award winning hypnotherapist based in Risley.
I’m registered with the National Council for Hypnotherapy (MNCH Reg) and the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC Reg), and I hold the HPD and DSFH qualifications. I’m DBS checked and fully insured.
In 2026 I won Best Alternative Therapy Provider at the Derbyshire Business Awards, and every one of my Google reviews is five stars.
Before training as a hypnotherapist, I spent over a decade in high performance corporate environments, working in senior sales and business leadership roles. I know what it means to push through anxiety while appearing completely fine on the outside. I know the toll it takes, and I know that "just getting on with it" is not a sustainable strategy.
That experience is exactly why I came into hypnotherapy, it helped me to rewire my brain and manage the stress and anxiety effectively. I was having panic attacks but these also stopped when I had hypnotherapy.
Why Online Hypnotherapy Works for Nottingham Clients
If you’ve been searching for hypnotherapy near me in Nottingham, you might be wondering whether doing this through a screen really works.
Almost all of my work is online, and it’s how most of my clients choose to see me, including plenty who could easily drive over.
When you live with anxiety, your brain is often on high alert, scanning for anything that might go wrong. This is called hypervigilance. Driving somewhere unfamiliar, finding a parking space, sitting in a waiting room and walking into a room you’ve never seen all give that alarm system more to react to. That’s exactly the stress we’re working to calm in the session.
Starting from your own sofa takes all of that away. You’re already somewhere safe and familiar, your mind has less to scan for, and it’s often much easier to settle into hypnosis.
When we finish, there’s no journey home, so you can stay in that relaxed state for longer.
For clients across Nottingham, West Bridgford, Beeston, Arnold, Hucknall and Mansfield, online means:
No ring road, no rushing around to get to appointments and battling traffic which raises stress
The privacy and comfort of your own home
Appointment times that fit around work, uni or the school run
Nowhere to drive afterwards, so you can stay in that relaxed state
All you need is a quiet room, somewhere comfortable to sit or lie down and an internet connection that holds up.
Hypnotherapy for Anxiety in Nottingham
Anxiety is the biggest part of my work.
I work with:
If you’re not sure whether hypnotherapy is right for what you’re dealing with, a FREE discovery call is the easiest place to start.
What Else Can I help with?
Anxiety is the biggest part of my work, but it isn't all of it.
Sleep
Lying awake going over tomorrow, or sleeping all night and still waking up tired. Sleep that has stopped working is often the stress side of things showing up at night. More on hypnotherapy for sleep.
Confidence and Self Esteem
Exam and presentation nerves for students at the University of Nottingham and Nottingham Trent, speaking up at work, or just feeling more like yourself in a room full of people. More on hypnotherapy for confidence.
Fears and Phobias
Needles before a blood test at the QMC. The dentist’s chair. Flying out of East Midlands Airport, driving on the A52, or being sick. Specific fears are some of the most satisfying work I do, because the brain has learned one very particular response and it can learn a different one. Each has its own page: fear of needles, fear of the dentist, fear of flying, fear of driving and emetophobia.
Stress and burnout
Long days, a head that won’t switch off and a short fuse with the people you love most. Stress builds quietly until everything feels like too much.
More on hypnotherapy for stress and burnout.
Stopping Smoking and Vaping
Stopping smoking is one longer, dedicated session rather than a course. You can do it online, or in person just over the border in Derbyshire, which is what most people choose for this one. Vaping works the same way. More on stop smoking hypnotherapy and stop vaping hypnotherapy.
What Hypnotherapy Actually Is
Hypnotherapy combines talking with hypnosis, a deeply relaxed and focused state. I use Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, which spends the session on where you want to get to rather than going over and over what’s gone wrong.
A lot of how we react happens on autopilot, before the thinking part of the brain has had a chance to weigh in. That’s the part hypnotherapy works with.
Hypnosis feels a lot like being lost in a good book or drifting off on the sofa. It isn’t mind control. You’re aware of everything, you can hear me the whole time, and you can move or open your eyes whenever you want.
Each session has two parts. We talk first, about what’s been better and what you’d like to be different. Then I guide you into hypnosis, where we can:
Focus on the person you want to be, rather than what’s gone wrong
Work with the reactions that kick in before you’ve had a say in them
Strengthen the calmer, steadier side of how you handle things
Practise a new response until it starts to feel like second nature
Solution focused work is my starting point, and I bring in other techniques when they suit what you’ve come in with, such as the rewind technique for fears and phobias. You can read more about how hypnotherapy works.

Do you see clients in person in Nottingham?
Not in Nottingham itself. One to one sessions are online, and stop smoking and stop vaping sessions can also be in person just over the border in Derbyshire.
Do I need a referral from my GP?
No, you can book directly. If you’re under the care of your GP or a mental health team, keep them in the loop and carry on with anything they’ve prescribed.
Will I be asleep or lose control?
No. You’re aware of what’s happening and you can open your eyes and stop at any point. Most people describe it as feeling very relaxed and pleasantly heavy.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on what you’re coming with. Stopping smoking is one session. For anxiety, most people have somewhere between six and twelve. Fees are on my fees page.
Is it confidential?
Yes. The only exception would be if I thought you or someone else was at serious risk, and I’d always talk to you about that first.
